The Florida Senate once again postponed action Wednesday morning on a bill to uncap rates for some new Citizens insurance customers, with the insurance committee chairman saying he hopes to bring it to a vote for final passage Thursday.
“Due to need to get bills in line with the House, we started with 2nd reading bills,” Sen. David Simmons, R-Altamonte Springs, said in an email. “This is fine with me since I did a strike all amendment to SB 1770, and in doing so protocol generally requires we give Senators more time to review a strike all on 3rd reading. Therefore, I may ask to take up the bill on Thursday morning.”
Amid questions about whether the bill has the votes to pass, the Senate also delayed action last week.
The bill could raise rates for some new customers of state-run insurer Citizens up to 85 percent in Palm Beach County.
